You can listen to both channels and receive Fire / EMS and Law enforcement at the same time just be aware that both scanners can and will "talk" at the same time so you will have a signal on both of the stereo channels at once.

This scanner stream is in stereo. If you
would like to listen to only Law Enforcement then set your player's
balance to the left channel. If you would like to listen to only
Fire and EMS activity then set your player's balance to the right
